ARES Related Events, Nets, Meetings, and Exercises

 

Pinellas County ESF-2 Table Top Exercise (Citrus Participating by Zoom) - Tuesday, 4/30/24 8:30AM - 1 PM.  (Please monitor local repeaters and HF. We hope to activate the EOC ham radio room)

 

All-Hazards Expo at Armory by Crystal River Airport - Saturday, 5/11/24, 7:45AM - 1:30 PM

Tower and operational HF are being planned.  Email ec-citrus@citrusham.org if you wish to help setup or operate.  (Some setup will be planned for Friday afternoon.) 

 

WEBEOC Training (New Software Release) - At EOC 0900-1030 on 5/21/24.  Repeated on 5/22/24.  Contact EC for registration information.  (This is for EM, ESF’s, and ARES personnel only.)

EPX Exercise at EOC (aka “Hurricane Exercise”) - Tuesday, 6/8/24, 8 AM - 1 PM.  (Please monitor local repeaters and HF. We hope to activate the EOC ham radio room)

 

Marion County Emergency Radio Team (MERT) Exercise - Saturday, 4/27/24.  This Special Event Station exercise will be using every radio in the radio room (HF on multiple bands, 2 Meter and 70 cm) along with our NVIS HF antenna.  Citrus members and hams should monitor and respond as appropriate.

ARES Briefing at CCARC Monthly Meeting - Third Monday, Monthly at 7 PM.

 

State Amateur Radio Network Weekly EOC Net - Listen on 444.825 Wednesdays at 1:00 PM

 

Citrus County ARES Weekly Net - Check In on 146.955*  Wednesdays at 7:30 PM - Visitors and Non-ARES members are encouraged to check in also.  You can also check in on 443.375 (Tone 146.2) after the initial VHF roll call.

 

*Using 146.955 (Club Repeater) Temporarily.    (The 146.775 ARES repeater works ok in the northeast quadrant, however is not receiving the other directions well at this time.)

2024 Amateur Radio License Examination Schedule

 

May 18, 2024

July 20, 2024

September 21, 2024

November 16, 2024

 

Time:  Be at EOC by 8:20 a.m.  (The group must enter at the same time.  The facility is normally locked during non-business hours.)

Needed for the Exam:

 

Bring Photo ID (Such as a driver’s license.)

 

Bring $15 Cash or a $15 Check made out to the ARRL.

 

Get the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Federal Registration Number (FRN.)  You must obtain the FRN before you can take the exam.  Its free from the FCC at their website:

If you presently have an amateur radio license, please bring a copy to the exam session. 

 

For the $15 you get a chance (if you wish) to take all three radio class exams:  Technician, General, and Extra.  (Limited to one try at each level for the session.)
