“CERT”
Community Emergency Response Team
CERT is organized under the direction of the Citrus County
Sheriff’s Office, Emergency
Management Section. Volunteers
receive special training
which enhances their ability to prepare for, respond to and recover from
disaster situations. CERT volunteers are taught how to take care of
themselves, their families and
their neighbors before, during
and after a disaster. Organized into
teams, they may provide vital services
in the absence of emergency responders, whose arrival may be delayed due
to the severity of the situation.
CERT training usually consist of 9 sessions. Sessions are about 3 hours in length and are
once per week. The website for CERT is www.citruscountycert.org
Citrus County CERT is
divided into 4 quadrants.
Each quadrant uses amateur radio for local communications among
members, between quadrants and to
contact the amateur radio station at the Sheriff’s Emergency Operations
Center in Lecanto, FL. Approximately 78 CERT
members in Citrus
County are amateur radio
operators. More amateur radio operators
would be greatly appreciated.
